Read Me
I never intended that the blog be a journal, chronicle, diary or whatever. I don’t know that I want it to get that personal. And really, who wants to read about me all the fucking time? I just needed an outlet, and there it was. It’s fun. Everybody's doing it. Blah, blah, blah. I don’t have as much free time as I did when I first started, so I get to it when I can and when I have something relevant to say. Obviously those two things don’t often happen at the same time, or you would have more to read.
Writing is a skill that takes practice. A lucky few have the skill, a lucky fewer have skill and talent. If you know me, then you know that the way that I write is basically the same way that I talk. I’m a communicator who just commits to paper, computer, blog or whatever, what I would say to you if you were there to listen.
Successful writers write the same book and just change some shit so that they can legally give it a new title. This is a very common practice in the publishing world. How many JK Rowling, Stephen King, Danielle Steele, that guy who wrote A Time To Kill, books have you read? A bunch, I bet. Maybe I could do that. Just write a great book one time and change some shit around for the following seven to ten books! It’s flawless.
I have been asked many times over the years to write more. I’m not sure what people want me to write when they say that. I suppose that they want to be entertained in some way. I don’t think that I have all that much to say. I do have a lot of ideas that I think are great ideas, but I can’t see myself actually doing anything about it a la David Sedaris or Al Franken or Whoopi Goldberg. I’m not that screwed up, political, or funny. I think.
Here’s some break down of a few writers:
David Sedaris
Skill: Not so much. His writing is technique is cumbersome and sometimes droning.
Talent: Being sarcastic and bitchy.
Al Franken
Skill: Hitting the point with a tight technique.
Talent: Being sarcastic and bitchy.
Whoopi Goldberg
Skill: Ain’t got none. That shit was all ghost-written.
Talent: Being sarcastic and bitchy.
Jayvin
Skill: Excruciatingly correct grammar and style.
Talent: Being sarcastic and bitchy.
Maybe there’s hope for that book still...
